Before the legislature voted to restore some guardrails around drug policy in 2024, Portland was in really bad shape. Even DPA acknowledged the “disorder, crime and human suffering.”

The 2024 legislature Joint Addiction and Community Safety Response Committee had 10 members, 3 Republicans and 7 Democrats. The Oregonian’s Noelle Crombie reported all of the Democratic committee members received political donations from the Drug Policy Alliance, the organization behind the original law. DPA, based in New York, also had a dedicated in-state lobbyist and activist groups participating with Oregon legislators.

Regular Oregonians were given ONE opportunity to vote on Measure 110, on our ballot in November 2020. Subsequent congressional adjustments were done in consultation with pro-decriminalization lobbyists, partners and legislative allies.

Whose will was being done?
